Honua Coffee is an eco-friendly and sustainable coffee brand and cafe from Hawai’i
The Idea
Honua Coffee draws inspiration not only from its commitment to environmental consciousness but also from the rich cultural tapestry of the islands.
Hawai’i is the only U.S. state to grow their own coffee, notably the Kona variety, and it is cultivated with care in fertile volcanic soils. The unique climate, coupled with the rich minerals, contributes to the distinct flavor profile that sets Hawaiian coffee apart.
Moreover, as the second greenest state in the USA, Hawai’i provides an ideal backdrop for Honua Coffee’s harmonious blend of nature and sustainability.

The Identity
Incorporating the Hawaiian language, ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi, into its identity, Honua Coffee derives its name from the word “Honua,” meaning the world. This choice goes beyond a mere label; it signifies a profound commitment to caring for the environment.
The name “Honua” exemplifies the brand’s approach to coffee production, emphasizing a harmonious coexistence with nature.

The brand’s logo is designed after traditional Polynesian symbolism, and serves as a visual representation of the values of Honua Coffee.
In Hawaiian culture, the Sun is a powerful emblem, signifying good energy, joy, and happiness. It embodies the great source of light that sustains life, provides vital energy and health nurturing the growth and manifestation of all organisms. This symbolism mirrors the brand’s dedication to fostering positive energy and sustainability.
Within the inner design of the logo lies a Marquesan cross, known as “peka ‘enana”, which translates to “cross of the people” or “posterity."
This symbol represents peace, balance, and harmony—serving as a visual representation of the brand's ideals and the value of Hawaiian coffee.

The primary type face, Colgneries, was chosen for its humanist feel and organic shape.
The secondary typeface, Noh, was chosen for its cleanliness and legibility.
The palette is inspired by hibiscus flowers, a symbol of beauty and grace, that creates an aesthetic harmony with the natural wonders of the islands
